Instant Picks of the Week Criminal Minds

CRIMINAL MINDS (Netflix)

I love watching horror movies for the sheer thrill of being scared, but nothing scares me like the cases on the procedural drama CRIMINAL MINDS. The idea that these crimes could actually happen to me is terrifying, which creates a really weird, twisted appeal for my desired adrenaline rush. There is a healthy mixture of both episodic and roll-over cases that reappear in later episodes. I genuinely cared about each storyline, whether that was personal to the characters or the crimes themselves. CRIMINAL MINDS has 13 seasons and counting, so you’ll be intrigued and a little horrified for days on end. Trust me, it’s a good thing. [Emma Wine]

THE WAY WAY BACK (Amazon Video)

Parents’ significant others can be a real pain; theoretically, anyone can be a real pain, but when you’re a teen with divorced parents just tryna keep your head up, they can certainly be a big wave in the ocean. THE WAY WAY BACK is a coming of age film that depicts the complicated relationship of wanting your parent to be happy while dreading the interactions with their new S.O. perfectly. If follows 14-year-old Duncan on a family vacation with his mom, her boyfriend Trent, and Trent’s daughter. During the week Duncan feels belittled and frustrated and hates the whole trip until he meets Owen, who hires him to work odd jobs for the local water park. This is where Duncan finds his community, summer adventures, and independent spirit. [Jade Michaels]
