WILD WILD COUNTRY (Netflix)

In case you missed it in last week’s television roundup, WILD WILD COUNTRY is Netflix’s latest foray into the bingeable true crime docuseries. The Duplass Brothers’ exploration of the Rajneesh cult never quite reaches the level of MAKING A MURDERER in terms of its ability to make you want to throw your television out the window and live off the grid. However, it takes on a much more nuanced tone than your garden variety true crime narrative. The inclusion of contemporary interviews with key players undoubtedly spares the cult some criticism in the long run, but adds a unique moral subjectivity. This is truly a story where literally nobody is ever in the right, and will be sure to spark a heated argument among your closest friends! You will go from loving someone, to hating them, to loving them again within a single scene—and again in the next one. It ticks all the true crime boxes of social commentary with a satisfyingly crunchy moral quandary of a narrative. Though not without its shortcomings, WILD WILD COUNTRY fits the bill to scratch your true crime itch this weekend. [Kate Brogden]

All six parts of WILD WILD COUNTRY are available to stream on Netflix.

THE WORLD’S MOST EXTRAORDINARY HOMES (Netflix)

I’ll be honest: this week’s Instant Pick stole my heart as I was looking for something mindless to fall asleep to. But there’s just something about THE WORLD’S MOST EXTRAORDINARY HOMES that captures the imagination. In a world where almost all news is bad news, and where we’re frequently reminded of how bad humans can be, this show reintroduces viewers to the realms of human possibility and imagination by taking us around the world to the most amazing (and admittedly expensive) homes you could ever dream of stepping foot in. Whether it’s a home with a roof made from the wings of a discontinued airplane, or a house that was built in a forest without damaging any of the surrounding trees, you’ll be amazed by the exquisite architecture and design featured on the show. Plus, it’s hosted by two charming British people who say things like “nonsense” and “bollocks” in everyday life. What more could you want? [Derek Daniels]

The entire first season of THE WORLD’S MOST EXTRAORDINARY HOMES is available to stream on Netflix.
